Cécile Kyenge is the Italian minister for integration, a post she has held since April 2013. In February she was elected as a member of parliament for the Democratic Party (PD). In 2010 Kyenge became the national spokesperson for the immigrant and human rights organisation Primo Marzo. She was also a councillor for the International Cooperation Forum for Immigration in the province of Modena. In 2004 Kyenge was elected to Modena’s city council, representing the Democratic Left (DS). She is also a qualified ophthalmologist.
