General information on transport

 

Flying to Florence

Florence (Peretola) airport is located 8 km from the centre, approx. 30 minutes by taxi or bus. Taxis can normally be found outside the arrival terminal. The airport is also connected to the main railway station by a shuttle bus that leaves every 30 minutes (on the hour and half-hour) and takes 25 minutes. Tickets are available on board for € 6.00.

 

Arriving by train

You can reach Florence by train using either Trenitalia or Italo. Florence’s central station is Santa Maria Novella from which buses to the EUI, as described below, can be taken from Piazza San Marco which is just a short walk away.

Again thanks to Destination Florence you can save up to 30% on Italo’s first class tickets with free change of travel time up to two hours after departure. To enjoy these discounted rates, tickets must be bought in advance (note tickets are limited).   • From Florence Airport Peretola to downtown Florence about 25/30 minutes (approx. 25-30 €)
  • From Florence Airport to the European University Institute about 30 minutes (approx 30 €)
  • From Florence central railway station Santa Maria Novella to the European University Institute: about 20-30  minutes (approx. 30-35 €)

 

Arriving by car

From the A1 Milano-Napoli (Autostrada del Sole), take the Firenze Sud exit and then Via Giovanni Agnelli, followed by Via Marco Polo to Via della Casaccia in Florence. Then take Via Aretina, Via Mannelli and Via Masaccio on to Via Mafalda di Savoia. Finally take Via Bolognese where you will find Villa Salviati on the right hand side at number 156.

 

Buses to the European University Institute (Villa Salviati)

From Florence

From Piazza San Marco, take bus n°25 (Pratolino) and get off at “Il Cionfo 01” on via Bolognese. The entrance of Villa Salviati is about 100 meters ahead. For routes and timetables see the public bus service site at ATAF.

From Florence Airport

By airport shuttle (Volainbus) to the Autostazione SITA opposite Florence central railway station, Santa Maria Novella (SMN).

By tram (Line T2) to the central railway station, Santa Maria Novella (SMN).

By following the signposts you will arrive at the entrance to the reading room located at the end of the pedestrian path.
