Parallel Session B.4 – 12:15 – 13:30, Thursday 2 May, Sala del Consiglio, Villa Salviati, EUI
Abstract: The panellists will discuss the ways in which the European Union coped with recent deviations from the shared values of rule of law, democracy, and fundamental rights in some of the member states in Central and Eastern Europe. The main question to be answered by the panellists is whether the EU has the tools and the willingness to enforce compliance with the core values of the EU outlined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union. The panellists will assess how the Article 7 procedures triggered against Poland and Hungary can be evaluated from the perspective of the EU and the two member states concerned.
