Anton Hemerijck

Anton Hemerijck is Chair and Professor of Political Science and Sociology at the EUI. He received his doctorate from Oxford University. In his capacity of Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam he founded with the University of Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Centre for Contemporary European Studies (ACCESS EUROPE) and in 2020 he was awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for research on Wellbeing Returns on Social Investment (WellSIre). Hemerijck directed the Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR), while holding a professorship in Comparative European Social Policy at the Erasmus University, in Rotterdam. He was Senior Researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne (1996-2000) and he has held numerous visiting appointments, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to the University of Lisbon.
