Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age, European Commission
Margrethe Vestager is Executive Vice-President for the European Commission political priority “A Europe Fit for the Digital Age” since 2019 and Commissioner for Competition since 2014. As Executive Vice-President, she coordinates the European strategy on data and approach to artificial intelligence, including its human and ethical implications. She steered the work on upgrading liability and safety rules for digital platforms, with the new Digital Services Act and the work on designing regulation to maintain gatekeeper platforms contestable with the new Digital Markets Act. She previously served in the Danish government as Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior (2011-2014), Minister for Education (2000-2001) and Minister for Education and Ecclesiastical Affairs (1998-2000). She was Political Leader of the Social Liberal Party (2007-2014) and Member of Parliament (2011-2014). She holds an MA in Science of Economics from the University of Copenhagen.
