Vice-Chair of Friends of the Global Fund Europe Board for Germany
Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul is Vice-Chair of Friends of the Global Fund Europe Board for Germany. She is former German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development. She was member of the German Bundestag (1987- 2013), where she acted as spokeswoman for European policies for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) parliamentary group. In the past she also acted as Deputy Federal Chairwoman. She was elected Member of European Parliament during the first direct elections of 1979 and remained MEP until 1987. Ms. Wieczorek-Zeul began her career as a teacher at the Friedrich Ebert School and subsequently served as Chairwoman of the European Coordination Bureau of International Youth Organizations. She holds degrees in English and History from Frankfurt University.
