Government Commissioner for the recovery and enhancement of the former Bourbon prison of Santo Stefano, Ventotene
Silvia Costa is currently Government Commissioner for the recovery and enhancement of the former Bourbon prison of Santo Stefano – Ventotene. She was member of the European Parliament for the Italian Democratic Party in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats from 2009 to 2019. During her time in the Parliament, she served as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Culture and Education (2014-2017), and of the Delegation for relations with Iraq (2009-2014). Among others, she also served as member of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. She was a professional journalist and editor of Il Popolo newspaper (1978-1985). She was municipal councillor of Rome (1976-1985) and elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies for Christian Democracy (1983-1994).
