Sarah Nouwen

Chair and Professor of Public International Law, and Co-Director of the Academy of European Law

Sarah Nouwen is Chair and Professor of Public International Law at the EUI. She is on leave from the University of Cambridge, where she is a Professor in International Law and a Fellow of Pembroke College and was Co-Deputy Director of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. Nouwen is also an Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of International Law. She previously worked in international diplomacy advising on transitional justice, peace negotiations and the rule of law at the Dutch mission to the United Nations, the Netherlands Embassy in Khartoum and as a Senior Legal Advisor to the African Union High Level Implementation Panel in Sudan. Her scholarship has received several awards, including the Leverhulme Prize.
