EU Diplomatic Correspondent, Financial Times
Michael Peel is the European diplomatic correspondent of the Financial Times, based in Brussels.
Peel first joined the Financial Times in 1997 and has done various jobs in London, as well as postings in South-East Asia, West Africa and the Middle East, where he covered the uprisings that swept the region during the early 2010s. His work has won awards including from the UK Foreign Press Association and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. He is the author of The Fabulists (2019), about leaders who mislead, and A Swamp Full of Dollars (2009), about Nigeria and the age of oil. Swamp was shortlisted for The Guardian’s first book award.
