Europe’s ability to step up as a global actor depends on whether it can compete in a global economy populated by large corporations and characterised by the dominance of new digital technologies, big data and global value chains. This session will explore how the European Union can best navigate this ever-changing geopolitical environment in light of the rapid shift to a new global digital economy. It will address questions such as: what kind of financial and policy tools does the EU have to implement a digital transformation? Can the EU leverage the single market through regulation and market access conditionality? How should the EU tax global companies? How should it deal with matters of sovereignty and data privacy?
The panel will be moderated by a high-level international journalist.
