As the concluding event of The State of the Union 2023, the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) opened its doors and welcomed the public to visit the archives and Villa Salviati’ grounds on Saturday, 6 May.
More than 2500 visitors enjoyed a lively programme and thanks to FAI were able to tour the beautiful grounds and buildings of the historic villa and visit the state-of-the-art vaults where Europe’s memory is preserved.

Guided visits to the deposits of the HAEU and the villa, gardens, and grotto of Villa Salviati.
Tours will be led by Apprendisti Ciceroni coordinated by the Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (FAI – delegazione Firenze) and HAEU archivists (reservation necessary).

Admission is open and free of charge. To participate in guided tours, prior registration is necessary through FAI.
Food and beverages will be for sale by Hoster food in the bar throughout the day.
Villa Salviati may be accessed by pedestrians through the gates at Via Bolognese 156 and Via Faentina 261.
We highly recommend taking public transport to arrive for the Open Day:
- Take bus n°25 (Pratolino) and get off at the stop “Il Cionfo 01” on Via Bolognese. Proceed uphill to via Bolognese 156.
- Take bus n° 1A or n° 21 and get off at the stop “Salviati FS” on Via Faentina. The gate at Via Faentina 261 is located just before Salviati FS. Visitors with limited mobility or who would have difficulty with the walk up to the villa (c. 800 meters) can board an EUI shuttle van that will depart regularly from Salviati FS.
Visitors with limited mobility arriving by car and in possession of a disabled parking permit may enter at Via Salviati 3b and park at the Villa via an internal road. Entry must be requested so that the porters can raise the access bar on the internal road.
