SOU4YOU: The State of the Union per i giovani cittadini europei, ideata e organizzata dall’Istituto Universitario Europeo in continuità con il Festival d’Europa, si è svolta a Palazzo Vecchio nel più ampio contesto di The State of the Union 2023.

L’evento si è tenuto nel pomeriggio di venerdì 5 maggio 2023 presso il Cortile della Dogana, dove stand espositivi dei nostri partner hanno aperto la manifestazione coinvolgendo i numerosi partecipanti con informazioni, attività didattiche, workshop e degustazioni. A partire dalle 16.45, il Salone de’ Cinquecento ha visto la presenza di oltre 600 partecipanti, in maggioranza giovani, provenienti dal territorio locale e nazionale che hanno intrapreso un dibattito con i  relatori tra i quali rappresentanti delle istituzioni europee e locali e dell’Agenzia Spaziale Europea (ESA), musicisti, attori, imprenditori e influencer.

Sostenibilità, competenze e formazione giovanile sono stati alcuni dei temi centrali del programma.

SOU4YOU si è concluso con un concerto  dell’Orchestra Erasmus e la performance teatrale a cura dell’EUI Waiting for the Citizens,  che ha affrontato  la crisi democratica in Europa e il controverso rapporto tra popolo e potere in un dialogo tra Macchiavelli e la presidente Ursula von der Leyen.

Il successo di SOU4YOU è stato possibile grazie alla collaborazione dell’Istituto con il Parlamento europeo e le istituzioni del territorio, quali Città Metropolitana di Firenze, Comune, Erasmus+, INDIRE, Regione Toscana e Università degli Studi di Firenze.

SOU4YOU: The State of the Union for Young European Citizens, organised by the European University Institute in continuity with the Festival of Europe, was held at Palazzo Vecchio on 5 May 2023, in the broader context of The State of the Union conference.

SOU4YOU took place in the afternoon of Friday, 5 May, 2023 at the Cortile della Dogana, where the stands of SOU4YOU’s partners opened the event, engaging the many participants and providing information, educational activities, workshops and tastings. The event began in the afternoon, where over 600 participants from the local and national territory gathered in the Salone de’ Cinquecento  to engage in discussions with the speakers on stage, including representatives of European and local institutions and the European Space Agency (ESA), as well as musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, and influencers.

Sustainability, skills, and youth training were some of the central themes discussed.

The event concluded with a musical performance by the Erasmus Orchestra and “Waiting for the Citizens”, a theatrical play by actors of the European University Institute who brought to the stage the democratic crisis in Europe, addressing, through the dialogue between Macchiavelli and Ursula von der Leyen, the controversial relationship between people and power.

The success of SOU4YOU was possible thanks to the Institute’s collaboration with the European Parliament and local institutions, such as the Metropolitan City of Florence, the Municipality, Erasmus+, INDIRE, the Region of Tuscany and the University of Florence.
